First trip out in almost two weeks ended pretty good. We ended up with 20 keepers of which 9 were real pigs. The weather was nice but the water temperature is only in the upper 30’s and a little dingy.
Most all of our fish today came from around 20 feet deep in the Big Sandy area of Kentucky lake. We were using a single 3/8 ounce jig in blue and chartreuse. We used the Bobby Garland baby shad and also a homemade hair jig.
Started using a new prototype seven and a half foot Jenko jigging rod this last trip. And I love it for deep water jig fishing . It works great for using the 3/8 ounce jig with no extra weight in the deep water.
Looks like this coming week we’re going to get some really nice weather with highs in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. This should move the fish up a little bit and really improve the bite over the next couple days. I still have a few brush piles and stake buckets to put in but I am ready to get after those slabs.
